Main Document

Premature ejaculation (PE) is defined as an uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after intercourse begins. Ejaculation occurs before the person wishes it, with minimal sexual stimulation.

The Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV) defines premature ejaculation as a persistent or recurrent ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before, on or shortly after penetration and before a person wishes.

Premature ejaculation occurs when a man experiences orgasm and expels semen soon after sexual activity and with minimal penile stimulation. It has also been called early ejaculation, rapid ejaculation, rapid climax, premature climax, and (historically) ejaculation praecox. Men with PE often report emotional and relationship distress, and some avoid pursuing sexual relationships because of PE-related embarrassment.

Premature ejaculation can result in an unsatisfactory sexual experience for both partners.

This can increase the anxiety that may contribute to the problem. Premature ejaculation is one of the most common forms of male sexual dysfunction and has probably affected every man at some point in his life. Estimates vary, but as many as 1 out of 3 men say they experience this problem at some time. As long as it happens infrequently, it's not cause for concern.

Many men attempt to treat themselves for premature ejaculation by trying to distract themselves, such as by trying to focus their attention away from the sexual stimulation. A list of ways to help stop premature ejaculation is listed below:

Masturbate First

Masturbate to orgasm an hour or two before intercourse; this can help delay ejaculation during sex.

Urinate Before Sex

This is a dead simple way to prevent premature ejaculation, but it's one men time and time again forget about. Don't be like most other men. Remember to go to the bathroom before having sex. By doing this you take the pressure off your genitals and lasting longer will come naturally.

Stop-start Technique

Masturbate alone, but do it with a dry hand, almost to the point of ejaculation, and then stop. Do this three times; the fourth time, ejaculate. After many sessions of practice, you will gain some control. Then begin to increase the stimulation, first using lubrication and your own hand, then ask your wife to masturbate you, then try vaginal penetration.

Take Some Deep Breaths

A lot of men when it comes to sex can get very nervous and fearful or premature ejaculation. As a result they get all tense, sweaty and start taking lots of short, sharp and shallow breaths. Unfortunately this is a great recipe for premature ejaculation. So next time you find your nerves kicking in take 10 slow deep breaths and just watch how you suddenly become a lot more relaxed... and last longer too.

Analgesic Creams and Sprays

Traditional numbing creams and sprays have been on the market for some time, you'll feel less sensation, which will delay ejaculation.

Condoms With Benzocaine

The results vary, but climax-control condoms can extend sexual activity and delay a male's climax as long as five minutes. These condoms have benzocaine in the tip; it's a mild anesthetic with a slight numbing effect, so it can help to decrease his sexual sensation and bring his sexual response down to a more manageable level.

Squeeze Technique

Have sex until you feel close to ejaculation. At that point, gently squeeze the end of the penis (where the "head" meets the shaft) for several seconds. Stop having sex for 30 seconds, and then start again. Repeat this pattern until you want to ejaculate.

Stroke The Roof Of Your Mouth With Your Tongue

OK... I know what you're thinking... This one is a bit "out there", but at the end of the day this technique works. By stroking the roof of your mouth you'll find that by putting all your attention into doing this weird thing you distract yourself from all the pleasure in your genitals. This distraction is a great way of getting your control back in the bedroom and lasting longer.

Kegel Exercises

Kegel exercises strengthen the pubococcygeus (PC) muscle, which contracts during orgasm; a well-toned muscle means better control. (To locate the muscle: When you urinate, tense up and interrupt the flow; what you're clenching is the PC muscle.)

Become James Bond

Another way to get rid of your nerves and prevent premature ejaculation is to change your thoughts. If you're constantly worrying about how bad it's going to be if you orgasm too soon then you're bound to make yourself nervous... and actually end up making it happen. On the other hand, if you spend your time thinking like James Bond would think, i.e. seeing yourself in control, just enjoying the moment and not stressing about anything, then you'll have no nerves to encourage premature ejaculation.

Addiction

For some men, stopping or cutting down on the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs may improve their ability to control ejaculation.

Wear a condom.

It sounds too simple to be true, but it works for a lot of men. Condoms reduce stimulation for most men, which should prolong the time before ejaculation.

Promescent Drug

Just recently, a new medication for early ejaculation was approved by the FDA. Promescent is a topical medication that is applied to the penis ten minutes before sexual activity, and it helps a man to better manage the sensations of sex through desensitization.

Go For A Second Round If all else fails...

Just go for a second round. Women care a lot less than you probably think about premature ejaculation. And this is especially true if you take the time to come back for a second round when you can really pleasure her. So if you ejaculate early don't worry about it too much. You can always just learn from your mistakes and go for a second round... I'm sure she'll thank you for it.

Both psychological and biological factors can play a role in premature ejaculation. Although many men feel embarrassed to talk about it, premature ejaculation is a common and treatable condition. Medications, counseling and sexual techniques that delay ejaculation, or a combination of these, can help improve sex for you and your partner.
