There's a reason erotica has existed since civilization began Nearly every culture has utilized sexual depictions in one way or another." according to Dr. Kat Van Kirk, licenced Marriage and Family Therapist, certified Sex Therapist and Clinical Sexologist. "Erotic literature can spark the imagination as well as the libido."
How does erotic literature affect grown-up play?
Romance and Erotica makes 1.44 billion dollars a year, the highest amount of any book genre.
When compared to other genres, the market share is 40%, with the next highest genres, religious/inspirational and crime/mystery, each receiving 20% of the market share.
20 percent of adults report arousal from BDSM images or stories, and 12% of women and 22% men report erotic response to a sadism or masochism story.
We asked our survey respondents if they read erotic literature.
We also asked if reading erotic literature affects their sex life.
When asked if blindfolds, restraints and paddles are included in their lovemaking, more than a quarter of respondents (27%) said yes.

The fastest-selling paperback book ever, with more than 200,000 copies sold in one week, 50 Shades of Grey is one of the most popular books and movies of all time.
We asked respondents if they've read or seen 50 Shades of Grey.
Still, when 50 Shades of popular, it affected the adult market, with sales of BDSM-related products increasing.
