Synopsis: Lexx Che is an author, independent journalist and cultural researcher exploring how sexuality shapes culture, fashion, media, power and identity worldwide.
Throughout my conscious life, I have studied culture in its many forms. Over time, that interest expanded into psychology, sociology, human behavior, and the systems through which societies construct identities, values, restrictions, and collective narratives.
For the past twenty years, I have also been building systems professionally. I run Deep Digital Co, a digital agency working across branding, advertising, communications, and digital ecosystems. I was a co-owner of a marketplace dedicated to Ukrainian fashion designers and independent brands, and I am also a co-owner of TAKTIKA, a Ukrainian brand that has developed its own recognizable visual language and cultural identity.
Sexuality runs through virtually every layer of human existence. From ancient Greek mythology and religious symbolism to contemporary advertising, fashion, cinema, and popular culture, it has shaped how societies represent beauty, power, identity, desire, and the human body.
Throughout my professional practice, my teams and I have worked extensively with beauty and fashion brands, where sexuality is often an inseparable part of the visual language and narrative architecture. It can appear through photography, typography, art direction, campaigns, product positioning, or the deliberate rejection of established conventions. Understanding these mechanisms requires more than aesthetic judgment. It requires understanding the cultural and psychological structures behind them.
My research approaches sexuality through very different cultural lenses: influential and controversial public figures, visual art, photography, literature, cinema, and music. I am interested not only in how sexuality is represented, but also in how these representations are constructed, transformed, commercialized, restricted, and interpreted across generations.
The differences become even more pronounced when examining social systems across countries and regions. In some societies, sexual freedom is deeply embedded in public discourse and individual rights. In others, sexuality is regulated through strict legal, religious, and cultural frameworks, sometimes extending to criminal penalties and even capital punishment.
These contradictions form an important part of my research. I examine how cultural narratives interact with institutions, power, social behavior, and individual autonomy, without assuming that any single society provides a complete or universal model.
For me, sexuality is neither an isolated subject nor merely a matter of private experience. It is one of the fundamental dimensions through which human civilizations reveal their values, conflicts, hierarchies, and transformations.
To understand how a society treats sexuality is to understand something essential about how that society distributes freedom, constructs authority, and defines the boundaries of being human.
